Mother’s Day Weekend Recap!

Happy Monday everyone!
This weekend was a complete whirlwind and didn’t go like I planned, but it ended up being really great! Let’s recap, shall we?
As I mentioned, we’ve been in the process of moving our stuff from the downstairs apartment of the house we live in to the upstairs apartment. Since no one has rented the downstairs apartment yet, we’ve just been taking our sweet time carrying all our things upstairs. However, Thursday night we got an email from the guy who owns the house saying that he would be coming out Friday to do some painting and was planning on staying in the downstairs apartment on Friday night…ahhh! This sort of forced Cam and I to get it into gear to finish moving everything and I’m happy to say that we finally have all of our stuff up in our new apartment! We’re still in the process of organizing it all, but as soon as we do I’m looking forward to sharing some pics of our new space!
Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending a baby shower for my favorite Tahoe blend (blogger + real life friend) Natasha! She is having a baby boy next month, and it was so much fun to celebrate with her and to meet some of her friends here in Tahoe. The weather was gorgeous and sunny on Saturday, and I actually ended up getting a sunburn from sitting out on the deck chatting with all ladies at the shower! (I’m not complaining though, I’m so happy that summer is finally on it’s way!) I thought it was so neat that she had her shower on Mother’s Day weekend, she is going to be a fabulous mom!
I totally meant to take more pictures at the shower, but the only other picture I got was one of these cupcakes…they were so good!
Saturday after the shower, Cam and I were originally planning on relaxing and getting more stuff done around the house. However, those plans changed earlier this week when I found out that my grandma, aunt, and cousin would be flying from Michigan out to California. My sweet grandma is 84 years old and her sister, Dot, who lives in the Bay Area is 86 and they are still super close and talk every single day, however, they hadn’t been to visit each other in a few years. Last week, Dot’s health started rapidly declining and it looked like if my grandma wanted to see her one last time, she needed to get out to California ASAP. So my grandma (accompanied by my Aunt Harriet and my cousin Michael) ended up flying out on Thursday afternoon. I wasn’t there on Thursday to see when my grandma and her sister were
reunited, but everyone who was there said it was really touching and
emotional when they saw each other for the first time after so many
years of being apart. Thankfully, Dot’s health has significantly improved since their arrival and it looks like she’s actually going to be getting out fo the hospital this week!  I think that seeing my grandma has really lifted Dot’s spirits, and they are both amazing ladies.  (And despite the fact that my grandma has spent most of her life in Michigan and Dot in California, having grown up in Georgia, they are still both so Southern through and through!)

Sweet sisters 🙂
Cam and I made the decision that we were going to drive out to the Bay Area to see everyone, and we got to the hospital on Saturday around dinnertime. Most of my mom’s cousin’s (Dot’s kids) and their kids all live in Northern California, and they were all around this weekend as well. I hadn’t seen many of them for 10-15 years, and Cam had never met most of them. It’s sad how it sometimes takes a scary phone call or a tragic event to bring everyone together, but it was so nice to see everyone, catch up on life, and spend time together! Here are some of my favorite photos from the weekend…

(they’re a mix of Instagram shots and photos from my actual camera)

Cam loves ping pong, so he was loving the table they had set up in the courtyard of the hospital!

It was so special for me to be able to celebrate Mother’s Day with all these great women in my family, especially my grandma! She is so loving, kind, and fun to be around, even in her 80’s! I’m so thankful for her, and the legacy that she has created in our family. She was looking so snazzy on Mother’s Day in her pink shirt, and I’m still smiling about the fact that we got to spend the day together! We spent some of the day at the hospital, and it was great to be able to visit with Dot and wish her a happy Mother’s Day as well. Later in the afternoon, Grandma, Aunt Harriet, and I got to do a little shopping, which was really fun!

The hospital was in Walnut Creek, CA and I wasn’t aware of what a super nice area it is. The downtown is really cute, there are tons of nice restaurants, and so much shopping! I’d definitely like to come back and spend some more time here. Last night, my cousin Erin had everyone over to her house for dinner, and it was a great way to finish the weekend.

The whole group (minus Cam who was taking the picture!)
As much as it was tiring to drive the 3.5 hours from Tahoe to the Bay Area again this weekend (after doing it last weekend!) it was totally worth it! (And Cam was the one who drove…between moving our stuff, spending hours on the road, and being really sweet and supportive this weekend, I am once again reminded how thankful I am for him!) This was one of those rare weekends where so much of my extended family came together, and I’m just so glad that I was able to be there and be a part of it. Family is so important and I’m really thankful for mine!
Speaking of which, I need to give a {belated} Happy Mother’s Day blog shoutout to my mom! I am so incredibly thankful for her and all the love and lessons that she has poured in to my life these past 25 years. She is so sweet, loving, patient, and kind and I really appreciate her. One day when I have kids of my own, I feel so blessed that I have her example to emmulate. I’m sad that we weren’t able to spend the day together, but I know that she was happy that I got to spend it with her mom. And then I’m really looking forward to seeing my mom when we go to Chicago in a few weeks–I love you Mom!
I hope that all the moms out there had a fabulous weekend! Happy Monday! Xoxo
PS: Sunday morning, Cam and I had a chance to drive around and do some exploring while we were waiting for everyone to get ready and get to the hospital. We ended up driving over to Berkeley, and had so much fun driving around the campus! I didn’t end up taking many pictures, but I did snap a few in front of the Alpha Phi house (my sorority!) on campus, as well as the views from Tilden Park. I would love to go back and spend more time checking out Berkeley, it was such a unique campus/city!

They have such a sweet house!
I miss college
It was a little foggy…
…but still beautiful! 🙂
