Feels Like Fall

Happy October everyone!

After yesterday’s final summery post, today we’re talking all about fall!

And I’m just warning you now, today’s post is FALL OVERLOAD.

{But chances are if  you’re like me you won’t mind!}

I feel like I say this every month, but honestly September flew by. Ever since we got back from New York at the beginning of the month, the time has just been racing. But I’m looking forward to exciting things in the month ahead and now that October’s here, it really feels like fall. September is when everyone starts getting excited about the change in season, but typically there are still lots of warm days and this past month in Tahoe has been no exception. But October is the time when the weather really starts cooling off and I can enjoy everything I love about fall in full force.

That’s why today I wanted to do a post dedicated to everything I love about fall. I know I already posted my fall bucket list of things I want to accomplish this season a few weeks ago, but today I just want to revel in all the little things I love about this time of year. And yes, I know every other blogger out there has just been all hopped up on Pumpkin Spiced Lattes the past few weeks and going on and on about fall (literally, I’ve seen so many posts about fall/fall bucket lists/fall clothes/fall food/etc) but I don’t care, I can’t help myself…I just adore autumn!

First off, I wanted to share some of the little fall touches I put out around our house over the weekend that are making me smile. I don’t really do too much decorating for fall because we don’t really have room to store a lot of decorations at this point in our life, but I still like the house to feel festive. One of my favorite ways? Mini pumpkins! They are just so stinking cute and they’re super inexpensive. I love buying a bunch to brighten up the house and then I can just get rid of them once fall is over. We also live in a place where there is an abundance of pinecones which are perfect for easy fall decorating, so I gathered a few this weekend and brought them inside. Fall flowers are also another easy way to add some color and brighten up your home when the weather starts to cool off. Like I said, my fall decor is pretty simple, but I like it!

I have pumpkins and pine cones all over the place, even in front of the TV!
And I’ve got to have a few Michigan things out for football season of course 🙂
Love my U of M pumpkin!
We have a wood-burning stove with a big stovepipe in our family room, so we don’t really have a mantle, but we do have a little bit of space where I put a few fall items

We also have a little table up at the top of the stairs to our loft where I put a few things I didn’t have room for downtstairs…also, I realize the photo of us is completely random, but since a lot of the walls in our place are slanted, we don’t have anywhere to hang things so we have photos stuck all over the place!
I made those
decoupage pumpkins two years ago and you can read about how I made them here
(but try not to judge that post, I hadn’t been blogging very
long when I wrote it!)

And with that picture, it’s the perfect segway in to the things I love about fall. (Get it?) There are so many simple pleasures about this time of year, I just want to really take the time to savor them. Here are some of my favorites:

Oversized, cozy sweaters
Going to the apple orchard (or cider mill if you’re from Michigan!) for donuts and cider
Making big batches of hearty soup
The colorful changing leaves outside
Seasonal fall beers…best if enjoyed by a fire
Rich colors like oxblood (I guess that’s what we’re calling burgundy this year?) and lots of textures like tweed, wool, and leather
Carmel apples
Seeing pumpkins when I walk in the grocery store
Candy corn (and those mellowcreme pumpkins–my fav!)
Sunny afternoons perfect for spending outside
Cuddling up under blankets to watch tv (and all the shows are back with new seasons!)
Dark nail polish on my fingers (here are some ideas…)

The crisp feeling in the air
Using my crockpot on a regular basis
Yummy pumpkin recipes filled with cinnamon and spices
Scarves, tights, and boots
Chili and cornbread
New school supplies (even if I’m no longer a student…tear!)
Biting into a honeycrisp apple
Carving pumpkins and roasting pumpkin seeds
Flannel sheets fresh out of the dryer
Hot coffee/latte/tea on a cold morning
The smell of something baking in the oven
The feeling of being warm and cozy by the fire when the wind is
howling outside

I know there are things I’m forgetting from this list, but you get the idea. There are just so many things to love about this season 🙂 And last but not least, here are some of my favorite recent fall pins…enjoy!

It’s awesome…and clearly I’m obsessed (I literally could have spent hours putting up more fall pins, there are so many great ones!), but I thought this post would be the perfect way to celebrate October’s arrival 🙂

Now tell me (mainly so I don’t feel like a crazy person for being so obsessed with this season) what are some of your favorite things about fall? Do you decorate your house? What are some of you favorite recipes/things to do? Xoxo

This post is full of so much fall beauty and inspiration – almost makes me wish we were heading into fall here in South Africa, but since we're in the southern hemisphere winter is actually just ending and we are starting to head into Spring 🙂

Here's to checking everything off your fall bucket list!
