Savoring Our Final Tahoe Summer

Here in Tahoe, people say that you come for the winter, but stay for the summer.

Over the past year and a half, I’ve definitely found that to be true.

While fresh snow and skiing are great, there is just something so incredible about spending time by that beautiful blue lake in the sunshine. It’s just such an amazing time of year here, and I feel really fortunate that Cameron and I have gotten to experience it for a second time this year. Over the past week, we have really been trying to soak up what makes summer in Tahoe so special (despite me having a miserable cold since getting home from Charleston–being sick in the summer is no fun!). We’ve been enjoying time by the lake, taking in the sunsets, spending time with friends, and basically pretending to be tourists in our own town.

And it’s been pretty fantastic if I do say so myself…

View of the sunset off our back deck
Friday night pizza date…
…that was followed by ice cream…
…that was followed by strolling through the car show that sets up on the weekends in Heavenly Village!
The weather this past Saturday was gorgeous, so we got up early and decided to drive around the lake in our Jeep–I couldn’t resist snapping a photo of this 1950’s motel with all its pretty flowers as we drove out of town!
We also had to make a stop at Sugar Pine Bakery in South Lake Tahoe as well–I forgot to include them on my list of places to eat in Tahoe, but I am definitely need to go back and add them to the list!
They have the most delicious cinnamon rolls!
We continued up the west shore of the lake and had to make a stop at Emerald Bay–even though we’ve been here many times before, it’s still one of my most favorite places in Tahoe!
I still can’t get over how clear the water is, it’s really crazy!
Although the lake always looks beautiful, Saturday it really seemed to look especially blue and sparkling!
We continued up the west shore of the lake and made a stop at Meeks Bay
Sitting by the water was so relaxing 🙂
Being by the lake makes me happy 🙂
Because I have a cold, we opted to leave the hard top on our Wrangler instead of taking it off like we’ve done for some of our other drives around the lake. This has been a great vehicle for living in Tahoe!
We kept driving around the lake and decided to stop in Tahoe City…it’s such a cute town!
There were tons of people out stand-up paddleboarding on the lake!
There is a bridge in Tahoe City, and we had fun reading all different signs about Tahoe!
The water is super clear and we saw tons of fish swimming around–not sure what kind they were though!
We ate lunch at Tahoe Mountain Brewing Co. in Tahoe City–the food/beer was honestly just average, but they’ve got a deck out front where you can eat outside so that was really nice!
Cute old cabin
I thought these bear statues were so funny!
Tahoe City has a great beach right downtown and it was really pretty to look out at the water!
Tahoe City also has some cute shops, so it was fun to browse and pretend we were on vacation
There were gorgeous flowers all through downtown!
After lunch, we continued our drive around the lake and had to make a stop in Kings Beach, CA at Char-Pit! Be warned if you go here, the service is not great and I think that their food looks pretty gross…
…but their ice cream cones are the best! 🙂
As we continued our drive around the east shore of the lake back to our house, I was really awestruck by just how stunning the water looked! I took these pictures while we were driving so they really don’t do it justice!
I still haven’t gotten used to seeing bear crossing signs when we drive around!
After finishing our drive around the lake, naturally I headed down to the beach–ha! I just could not get enough of the lake on Saturday, it was such a perfect day!
Saturday night, we ended up having a really impromptu get-together with some of our neighbors. It was nothing fancy, just hot dogs and (lots of) wine, but it was really fun to hang out with everyone!
The girls: Kelly, me, Brooke, and Liz
The guys: Cam, Ryan, Nick, and Will
We tried to get the dogs together for a picture, but that proved to be a little more challenging…especially because one of the dogs was outside on our deck–ha!
This was about the best we could get!
Sunday, I got together for lunch with my friend Natasha & the adorable Ethan!
Ethan turned 1 this week and since we won’t be able to make it to his party, I wanted to make sure to give him his gift from us–he is seriously the sweetest little guy and it’s been so much fun to watch him grow this year!
We had lunch at Freshies, which also was the first place we met for lunch last January!

Seriously, we have been so blessed to have gotten a chance to live here.
However, the time has come for us to move on to the next chapter.

That’s right, we’re moving! (And really soon–tomorrow is actually my last day in Tahoe!)

Although we are SO excited about moving and feel that it definitely the right choice for us at this time, looking back through the gorgeous photos from the past few days makes it very difficult to say good-bye to this beautiful place!

I’ll have more details about our move tomorrow/Monday! Xoxo
