Style // Met Gala Favorites

Earlier this week, Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC held their annual Costume Institute Gala and honestly, this is an event I look forward to every year! (You can see some of my previous posts here and here) I love red carpet fashion and so I especially enjoy the Met Gala because it’s specifically focused on fashion. The celebrities that attend seem to take a lot more risks than at other events like the Oscars, and I really like seeing all the creative and over the top gowns! The looks this year did not disappoint, and so I thought I’d share a few of my favorites:
Blake Lively in Gucci Premiere
She was definitely my hands down favorite of the night. I’ve mentioned this in previous fashion-related posts, but I seriously love Blake Lively. She’s naturally gorgeous, she has impeccable taste, and always looks amazing on the red carpet. I thought this dress was so beautiful and the color and silhouette look fantastic on her. The overall look was very much old Hollywood glamour with her retro waves, yet it still felt really modern and I thought it was perfect.

Oh, and did I mention she’s married to Ryan Reynolds? Seriously girl has it together! They don’t typically do a lot of public appearances together, so it was really fun to see them on the red carpet.

Joan Smalls in Vera Wang
Ok, call me crazy, but I loved this look.
I thought the dress was beautiful, I loved the braid, but the purple lips totally stole the show! This is a tough look to pull off, but I thought it was daring while still being pretty.

Karolina Kurkova in Marchesa
I really loved the drama of this dress and thought it was perfect for the Met Gala. From the asymmetrical neckline to the bold floral print, it really just looks like a stunning work of art!

Emma Stone in Thakoon, with Andrew Garfield
Totally obsessed with Emma Stone’s whole look here, she nailed it. The whole vibe is very fresh and youthful and spring-y and she just looks gorgeous! First off, I thought her hair and makeup were so pretty and really worked with what she was wearing. She can definitely pull off the whole crop-top look, and I really loved the two shades of pink. I thought it was very age appropriate yet still sophisticated. It was very different than anything else on the red carpet that night, a standout for sure!

Here’s a better view of the whole look – love it!

Beyonce in Givenchy, with Jay-Z
Ahh my favorite power couple. I thought this was a very different look for Beyonce, but I loved it! I thought it was very dramatic and beautiful, and the beading on the dress is gorgeous!

Hailee Steinfeld in Prabal Gurung
I am a huge fan of graphic black and white, and so this dress caught my eye. I thought it looked really fresh and young, while still being glamorous and appropriate for the event. I feel like Haliee Steinfeld has awesome taste for someone so young!

Suki Waterhouse in Burberry
This dress stood out to me because it’s ultra feminine and I am a fan of the dusty rose color. I feel like this gala is a a chance to play dress up and so I like when people embrace it and go full on glam.

There were many other gorgeous dresses that I liked, but those were my favorites!
What about you? Who did you think was best-dressed at this year’s Met Gala?
I’d love to hear your thoughts!
