Pregnancy // Babymoon Weekend

This weekend, Cameron and I escaped for a little weekend away in the Gorge!

The whole idea of taking a babymoon (aka a vacation before the baby comes) is becoming pretty popular these days and it’s great, in theory. However, for us this year has already been pretty busy with travel and so there was just no way that taking a more extended trip was going to fit in our schedule. But we still wanted to take one more little getaway together before really settling into nesting mode, and so the Columbia River Gorge seemed like the perfect option!

Sure, we’ve been there a bunch of times and it’s only a short drive from
Portland but usually when we go to the Gorge, it’s to do a hike or to take out of
town guests to Multnomah Falls and so we’ve never actually stayed for
the weekend. But it’s such a pretty area that’s incredibly relaxing and
so it was nice to have more extended time there to just soak it in! It was great to just take a leisurely drive and enjoy the scenery. And although the Gorge is stunning when it’s sunny, I was actually hoping for cloudy, stormy weather…and that’s just what we got! There’s just something so dramatic and cozy about dark skies and fog rolling amongst the trees in that’s really beautiful in its own way.

We actually decided to drive out to Hood River, OR for lunch on Saturday, and ended up stopping off at a cute little pumpkin patch which was a fun detour. I just love this time of year!

Despite a Michigan football loss, we still had fun in Hood River – it’s just such a cute little town!

For the weekend, we stayed at Skamania Lodge in Washington, which is such a lovely spot! It has a rustic yet elegant vibe, and there are lots of giant windows with great views of the Gorge.

Usually Cam and I are very go go go, and so it was nice to have a weekend to just relax and do nothing! On Saturday, I got an awesome prenatal massage at the Lodge‘s spa, and then after, we just sat by the fire, drank hot chocolate, and just watched the rain…it was great!
After dinner Saturday night 🙂
On Sunday morning, the sun came out for a bit and we had a delicious brunch 🙂
They had tons of fresh seafood including yummy crab legs!

Skamania Lodge is a great home base if you’re looking to explore the Gorge, but the best part of the weekend was just getting to relax and spend a lot of time with my husband 🙂

On the way home, we ended up stopping off at Oneonta Gorge. This was a hike I SO wanted to do this summer, but we didn’t have a chance. (Plus, I was a little concerned about doing it pregnant as my balance hasn’t been the best and the hike involves some climbing/wading through chilly water) Even though we just stopped off at the turnoff and didn’t hike this time, it was still a really pretty spot and I can’t wait to come back when the weather is warm!

I’m really thankful that Cameron and I had this weekend to spend time together and were able to get out and enjoy the beauty of the Pacific Northwest in the fall. But now it’s time to buckle down and get things done before the baby gets here…only a few more weeks to go! 🙂
