Henry // Newborn Photos

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a fantastic Valentine’s Day πŸ™‚ It was extra special for me this year because I had two handsome Valentine’s to share it with, plus the weather here in Oregon was pretty amazing. (Not to rub it in to all of you freezing right now in the Midwest/East Coast!)
Last week on Instagram, I posted one of the photos from Henry’s newborn shoot that we had done just after he was born. Today, I finally wanted to go ahead and share the photos with you!
Before Henry was born, I knew I wanted to have professional newborn photos taken. However, I was kind of torn on whether I wanted photos that were more focused solely on the baby with cute props and all that or if I wanted more of a lifestyle shoot that incorporated the whole family. Through my participation with Portland Bloggers, I came across the work of Aubrie LeGault and made the decision I wanted her to do a shoot at our house. A big part of what really sold me on her work was the fact that she had incorporated dogs in a lot of her newborn shoots and I just loved that idea.
I had Aubrie come and take these photos the week after Henry was born and I had every intention of sharing them here on the blog right away, along with getting our birth announcements ordered ASAP. That didn’t end up happening because those first few weeks with a newborn are kind of a blur. It’s crazy to me to see how much Henry has already changed from when these photos were taken to now, and it makes me so glad we got them done! (And I have a post coming soon about our birth announcements so stayed tuned for that!)
I have seen some other newborn photos where the baby is wide awake and looking right at the camera or they’re peacefully asleep and posed just perfectly and those are really adorable. But that didn’t quite happen for us; Henry was actually very fussy on the day we had these photos taken, which I now realize probably due to the fact that he was hungry since he wasn’t nursing properly due to his tongue tie. (Plus, I have to remind myself that most of the time those photos of wide-eyed babies are taken when they’re a few weeks older than he was.) But what I love about these photos Aubrie took of us is that they captured not just our sleepy-eyed, brand-new newborn, but our newborn family. Henry’s birth was also the birth of Cameron and I in our new roles as parents (and Lola as a big sister of course!) and I’m so thankful that we have the start of this new chapter of our lives so beautifully documented in a relaxed way in our home. So without further ado, prepare for photo overload…

Love that she got some photos in his nursery!

And because he was a December baby, I couldn’t resist getting some shots by the tree!

Best early Christmas gift ever πŸ™‚
Thanks again to Aubrie for the beautiful photos!

Thanks so much for the kind words and sharing all the photos- I'm so glad you're enjoying the photos! (And you are right- if "Newborn" photos have their eyes wide open it's probably that they are older. πŸ˜‰ )

Beautiful REAL photos. Love that everyone is included. That there are now weird positions babies aren't normally in and it doesn't include non-realistic props. The nursery shots and kisses on the forehead are great.

The pictures turned out great. Being a dog person, I can't help but love that Aubrie caught one of the dog giving some kisses.
