Friday: Fitness, Fashion, Food!

Happy weekend! We have officially been Colorado residents for one week and so far I’m really enjoying it! I didn’t get a chance to get pictures of our apartment yet, but stay tuned for that post early next week…

Today’s post is a random combination of topics (really I just wanted to be able to use alliteration in my post title) starting with fitness. My workout motivation has been severely lacking this week, but hey, it happens. I haven’t joined a gym here in Colorado yet, but next week I’m going to start hunting for potential options. I’m also contemplating not joining a gym and *attempting* to start running more consistently, as well as looking for other ways to be active in the great outdoors since it’s so gorgeous here in Colorado. (I attempted to do a strength workout in our apartment gym yesterday and it was swelteringly hot, so I think I’m just going to try bringing my own weights outside in the mornings when I want to get a strength workout in.) However, today I wanted to try to shake things up and I decided I wanted to do a pool workout. After taking Lola for a 2 1/2 mile walk this morning, I changed into my suit at lunch to go for a little swim. I found this workout on Cooking Light of all places, and I decided to give it a try. It took me about a half an hour to complete, and although it was quick, it definitely tired me out! I did the advanced option, so my workout looked like this:

  • 5 minutes of swimming (I did freestyle laps…and I was tired at this point, definitely not going to be taking on a triathlon just yet…)
  • 2 sets of 12 reps of push ups on the side of the pool
  • 2 sets of 12 reps of alternating leg kicks (definitely felt these in my tight hamstrings!)
  • 2 sets of 12 reps of side swipes (this move definitely targets the core!)
  • 2 sets of 12 reps of bowl and hooks
  • 5 minutes of easy swimming (I decided to focus on the legs because my arms were pretty tired at this point, so I mainly just kicked myself around the pool)
I just Google Imaged “pool” for a picture and this was one that came up…how crazy is this?!? I guess it’s a pool in Toyko in the summer…I’m seriously claustrophobic just looking at it! (source)
Ahh much better 🙂 (source)

This would be a great little workout to try if you’re on vacation and your hotel has a pool, I’ll definitely be trying it again. And speaking of swimming, I just received my new bathing suit in the mail from Voda Swim that I won from the amazing giveaway last month at The Seattle Smiths! Hopefully I’ll be getting up a post with some pictures soon…after I do a few more of these pool workouts that is 😉

On to fashion…well really two great finds from Target aka my idea of fashion! I know I mentioned that I have a large Supertarget near my apartment, and earlier this week I finally decided to go exploring and buy a few things that we needed for our new place. This store was HUGE. You know I have a weakness for Tar-jey’s adorable and affordable clothes and shoes, however, I tried to be good at resisting temptation. However, I did leave the store with two items of clothing that I absolutely must share about because I’m obsessed.

Exhibit A: The boyfriend t-shirt. I actually got a tip about the awesomeness that is these shirts by my good friend Alyssa on her visit to Greenville last month. Since the style here in Colorado is very laid back, I thought that I could use a few new t’s, so I got this shirt in white, orange, and heather grey being that it was ONLY $8! Amazing. These shirts are super comfy, have the perfect flattering V-neck (low, but not too low), and they fit like a dream.

No that’s not me…(source)

Exhibit B: The seamless babydoll tank aka the perfect workout shirt. I don’t know if it’s just me, but many of the cute, fitted workout shirts I have tend to ride as I’m running or doing a class. It’s really annoying to have to keep pulling your shirt done to cover your muffin top stomach, so I’ve been on the hunt for a shirt that’s a little longer and not quite so clingy. This shirt fits perfectly and I love that it’s a little bit longer and not so tight in the tummy, and it’s really comfortable. It has a built-in bra that’s sufficient for someone who’s cups don’t runneth over (like myself) but if you’re more well-endowed, you’ll probably want to wear an additional sports bra underneath. I got the shirt in teal, but I want to back and get it the other two colors it comes in because it’s that great.

Pretty little cherries 🙂

And finally that leads me to my favorite subject–food! Tonight, Cam and I are having a little night in, and I’m looking forward to relaxing. We’re going to make a Mexican skillet for dinner; I got the idea from something I picked up in Whole Foods a few months back and just found in the process of unpacking. I’m going to take some of the grass fed beef I got at the farmer’s market, saute it with some veggies and salsa, and put it over some cornbread. (Jiffy of course!) Then I’m going to try to whip up some sort of dessert using the cherries we got the other night…I’m thinking this Cherry Vanilla Cake with some vanilla ice cream? We shall see, and if things come out I’ll post some pictures next week! 🙂

Tonight’s Netflix movie of choice: Love and Other Drugs…I’ve heard good things, so hopefully it lives up to expectations. Then it’s resting up for what will hopefully be a fun weekend of exploring our new state! Have a great weekend everyone! xoxo
