Happy Habits

Happy Monday everyone!
We are back from Yosemite, and it was an AMAZING weekend! Ken Burns was right, the National Parks were America’s best idea…Yosemite was absolutely breathtaking! We had perfect weather all weekend (except I’m super sunburned…eeek!) and it was so much fun to drive all over the park with the top off the Jeep and the wind in our hair (and in Lola’s ears…she was not such a fan). I took an insane amount of pictures (500 I think? For reals.) and I’m looking forward to sharing them with y’all later this week! I didn’t have cell phone service pretty much all weekend, and it was really great to just unplug for a few days. No cell phone service also meant no Instagram so I was forced to use my actual camera all weekend, which was also a nice change. I did snap one shot with my cell phone yesterday as we were leaving the park, so here’s a preview of what’s to come…

I want to go back.

Anyway, it’s the start of another week.

Yes, already.

Cam and I are busy…and I love that we are.We just came back from from a fun weekend out of town, we’re going to be flying out of town again on Friday, and it looks like we’ve got plans on the calendar from now until the middle of July. So while I’m super excited about this because it means seeing family and friends, traveling, and having fun, it can also make it difficult to stay organized and find routine during the week. We got back into town yesterday evening, and I already feel a little bit behind on the week and it’s only Monday! I have a mountain of emails from work, there are mountains of laundry from this weekend, and our apartment is still slightly in shambles from moving upstairs. Ugh. I hate feeling overwhelmed and like things are disorganized, yet at the same time I don’t want our weekends to slow down because I love exploring this gorgeous part of the country that we live in and having a full calendar. I don’t ever want to be one of those people that has to stay home all weekend just to clean their house…but at the same time I don’t want every week to just be chaos where we’re counting down the minutes until the next weekend. That’s why lately I’ve spent some time brainstorming about what I can do to feel a little less stressed during the week. Which is why today I want to chat about happy habits. What are happy habits? Glad that you asked!

To me, these are the routine things in my life that, when they’re getting accomplished, I feel happy, productive, and on top of things. When they fall by the wayside, I start to feel stressed and like things are out of whack. They’re the little things that help you feel like you have your life in order, and when you neglect them it feels like things are out of balance. I think they’re different for everyone, but here’s my list of things that I’d like to get accomplished every day during the week:

1. Wake up early to do a devotion/read the Bible with Cam before we get out of bed
2. Make our bed right when we get up
3. Get dressed…even if it is just in workout clothes
(one of the benefits/pitfalls of working from home is that you don’t have to get dressed…)
4. Take Lola for her morning walk before I start work
5. Make myself a healthy breakfast (complete with a cup of green tea) and a lunch full of protein and veggies
6. Make a point to stand up and move periodically during the day
7. Stay focused on work during the day (aka no blogging/Pinterest/Facebook!) and treat my hours like an office job (so no sending emails after dinner!)
8. Make working out a priority
9. Clean up after dinner and make lunches right after dinner instead of sitting down on the couch first and procrastinating
10. Accomplish one housekeeping task a night instead of saving them all for the weekend
11. Make time to blog/watch TV/relax before bed because I enjoy doing these things
12. Get in bed by 10:30 pm, no exceptions!
(Ok, except for tonight because the Bachelorette is on until 11!)

If I could actually do all of these things each day during the week, that would be fantastic. I already do a lot of these things most of the time, and a few of them some of the time…but if I could do them all all the time, that would be ideal. Sometimes I tend to get really busy with work and neglect some things on this list that benefit my personal wellbeing. A lot of getting this list accomplished really has to do with me staying focused on work when I need to be working so I have time to get everything else done in my day. I am not perfect and I realize that they’re not all going to happen everyday. However, I think being aware of these little routines that really make my life better and trying to adhere to them, even when life gets crazy, is key to making me feel satisfied with my life overall.

So what about you? What’s on your list? I’d love to hear!!

That’s all for me today friends, here’s to a positive, productive week! Xoxo
