Hello, hello!
I’ve had this recipe on my recipe Pinterest board for awhile now, and since I love anything cake batter flavored it sounded like the pefect dessert! It’s super simple to make so it’s perfect for those hot summer days when you don’t want to turn on the oven. Plus, I think the sprinkles make these Rice Krispie treats look so adorable, it’s the perfect treat to bring to a summer barbecue.
Cake Batter Rice Krispies Recipe
(From How Sweet Eats)
Ingredients:
3 Tbsp. butter
1 (10 oz.) bag of mini-marshmallows
1/4 cup yellow cake mix (the dry cake mix, not prepared into a batter!)
(I found that you can add closer to 1/3 cup to give a little stronger cake batter flavor)
(I found that you can add closer to 1/3 cup to give a little stronger cake batter flavor)
6 cups crispy rice cereal
1 (1.75 oz.) container of sprinkles
Method:
Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat and add marshmallows. Stir until they begin to melt, adding in (dry) cake mix one spoonful at a time so its combined. Stir in cereal so it is completely coated with marshmallow mixture. Sprinkle in half of the sprinkles and mix. Press into a baking dish (any size will do) and top with remaining sprinkles. Let sit for about 30 minutes before cutting. I find spraying a knife with nonstick spray helps to cut them.
Easy peasy, full of cake batter flavor, colorful and cute…definitely give this twist on a classic a try this summer! Xoxo
Disclaimer: I promised Cam that I would include a note that he hated these. Hated them. I should have anticipated that considering he doesn’t like anything that’s cake batter flavor or has sprinkles on it. The second he bit in to one of the squares he was like “Why do these taste so weird?” Ha. They definitely have a strong cake batter flavor and they also have a little bit harder, less chewy texture than a normal Rice Krispie treats. I thought they were delicious, but just be warned not everyone might like them.
