Fall Fashion: Splurge or Save?

When I was a kid, one of my favorite things about fall was always back-to-school shopping. Even though I’m no longer a student (tear!) I still enjoy picking up a few new pieces each autumn to liven up my closet. There are a few trendy items that I’ve been eyeing lately, however, being they’re more fun additions versus staple pieces I don’t necessarily want to make a serious investment. These are the options I’m considering…

Untitled #4

Polka Dots
I’m always drawn to anything with polka dots, they’re just so whimsical and fun. I’ve seen them popping up on scarves and flats and other fall pieces, but I think that a polka dot sweater would look adorable with jeans and flats. J.Crew has a pretty (but pricey!) version, however, Old Navy was carrying a very similar 3/4 sweater as well. I wasn’t able to find this sweater at the Old Navy in Soho when I was in NYC, and unfortunately it’s sold out online. However, they do have a similar sweater dress that I think would be darling with tights or leggings.

Suede Booties
I am seeing ankle booties pop up everywhere this season and I think they’re the perfect fall shoe. Madewell has a bunch of different pairs of super darling pairs this season, but being the ankle bootie is more of a trendy look, I’m not sure I want to spend $200 on a pair. Plus, I’m really hoping to invest in a nice pair of more classic brown leather riding boots this fall and if I do that, I think my boot budget will be pretty much spent. That’s why I was thrilled to see Lindsay of Vineyard Loveknots mention these adorable booties on her blog from Kohl’s of all places! Being I haven’t seen them in person, I’m not sure how they look, but for the price I’m tempted to give them a try. They seem like a great way to try out the trend, and then if ankle booties are out next season then oh well because they were less than $25!
4. Candie’s Ankle Boots in Taupe–$23.99

{Also, Kohl’s contacted me with a special offer–now through Oct. 24th use the code “UBLOGTEN” on Kohls.com for an additional 10% off your order…love that!}

Chambray Shirt
You could argue that this is more of a staple than a trendy piece, however, I’m still not sure I want to spend a ton on a denim shirt, especially when there are so many great low-budget alternatives. I actually tried on the pictured shirt at J.Crew and while I did think it was cute, it was also really thick and the color was fairly dark. I’m kind of leaning towards a chambray shirt that’s a little bit lighter weight/lighter in color as I think it might be more versatile. Target has a version, but I’m not sold on that one either, I’m hoping to check it out in person this weekend! But if you have a suggestion for a great chambray shirt let me know!

So those are a few things that I’ve been eyeing for fall, what about you? What pieces do you plan on adding to your closet this season? In addition to these items, I’ve also got a few other things on my list, so I’ll probably do another fashion post later this month once I actually do some shopping! Xoxo
