If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know that Cam and I like to get out and ski as much as we can in the winter. Although I didn’t grow up skiing, living in Tahoe for the past year has sort of forced me to get into it. I’m still not great at it but I have fun doing it and that’s all that matters, right? Plus, I love being able to spend the day outside enjoying the beauty of the mountains.
The only problem?
There has been NO snow lately.
We didn’t really get any snow in February, and it’s kind of annoying. They do make snow at the various resorts but conditions have been less than ideal. However, we’ve still managed to get out and spend some time on the slopes the past two weekends so I thought I’d share a few photos (some of which will look familiar if you follow me on IG):
Two weeks ago, we headed up to do some skiing at Northstar, which is a resort on the north side of Lake Tahoe. We usually ski at Heavenly (which is less than 5 minutes from our house) so it was fun to change it up a bit!
After skiing, we had lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, Fifty Fifty Brewing in Truckee. We don’t make it up to the north shore of the lake quite as often in the winter, so it was a fun treat! And then of course on the way home, we had to stop at the Char-Pit in Kings Beach because they have the most ridiculous ice cream cones ever.

Our friend Aaron joined us for lunch, hence the three beers 🙂 |
Last Sunday, we headed over to Heavenly to do a few runs. The nice part about living so close to the ski resort and having a season pass is that you can go for a few hours, and then head home vs. buying an expensive single day lift ticket where you feel obligated to ski the entire day to get your money’s worth. My favorite things about skiing at Heavenly is you get the most amazing views of the lake! Even though we’ve skiied here so many times now, the sheer beauty of skiing down a run just staring into the bright blue water on a sunny day definitely has not worn off!
This past weekend, we only went skiing one of the two days. Friday and Saturday were so warm that we figured we’d be skiing in slush, so we decided to run errands instead. Sunday it was overcast and actually snowing, so we decided to head out for a few hours. Although we didn’t get too much snow accumulation at our house, up on the mountain there was actually a fair amount and the conditions were great! The only problem was because it was so cloudy and snowy, it was really hard to see on a lot of the runs which was a little scary! The great part was that Heavenly was not crowded at all so we were able to get in a lot of runs in a short time…I wasn’t able to take many pictures, but it was a good day!

It snowed the entire time we were skiing, so my hair was covered by the time we got back to the car! |

Hot tea and homemade whoopie pies are the perfect apres-ski snack 🙂 |
I’m really hoping we’re able to get a few more good days of skiing in March and April, but only time will tell! Spring skiing can be really fun, so fingers crossed!
From here on out, posting may be a little sporadic over the next couple weeks as we head out on our trip to the UK. I have a few posts that I’m hoping to get scheduled before we leave, but I didn’t line up any guest posters for while we’re gone. I’ll be sharing a recap of the trip when we get back (hopefully it won’t take me as long to post as this one did though!) but feel free to follow along with me on Instagram (@inthepinkandgreen) as I’ll try to share some photos on there over the course of our trip!
