Wedding Week: Redo

Funny Wedding Ecard: It's not fair. Everyone who got married before Pinterest should get another shot at it. For free.
I saw this the other day and had to laugh because I’m pretty sure that every bride that got married before Pinterest feels that way (and I actually talked about it in my anniversary post last year). Cameron and I had a really beautiful wedding that was perfect for us and really symbolized where we at in our lives at the time. And honestly, if we were doing it again tomorrow I would probably keep a lot of the major details the same. At the same time, I think what’s so great about Pinterest when it comes to wedding planning is that it provides great inspiration for creative little details to make your wedding really personal, so if I had it to do over, I probably would have incorporated a few more of those ideas into our ceremony/reception. And although I loved the fact that we got married in Ann Arbor, MI because it’s so significant to us (it’s where we both went to school and met), having lived all over the country these past few years has really opened my eyes to just how many beautiful locations with unique venues there are that would be awesome places to get married.
Truth be told, there’s a little part of me that wishes I was planning my wedding now. I have so many friends who either just got engaged or are getting married soon, and for me it feels like all that stuff was so long ago that I sort of wish I could go through it again. When I was planning my wedding, I was finishing my last semester of college, starting my first (very stressful) full-time job, I had been to maybe all of three weddings before in my life, and I really had no idea what I was doing. I wasn’t blogging and was not aware of even a fraction of the wedding blogs/resources that are out there today. I feel like I’m a lot more knowledgeable about that stuff today than I was four years ago, so that’s why when I browse Pinterest or read about other blogger’s who are currently planning their weddings, it’s hard not to feel a little envious and wish I could be going through that process again!
But as anyone who’s recently planned their wedding knows, it can also be a very stressful time. I talk to my girlfriends who are getting married this summer and they’re all crazy busy trying to balance working full-time, house hunting, moving, trying to coordinate with their families/bridal parties that are spread across the country, and all these other challenges that I didn’t have on my plate yet when I was going through the process four years ago. They tell me about their massive to-do lists of things they have to get done before their weddings, and I’m quickly reminded of just how time-consuming that wedding planning can be. So I guess if I’m being honest, there’s another (bigger) part of me that is really glad that our wedding is over. Don’t get me wrong, it’s such a special time in your life and a lot of fun to be engaged, but there’s something really nice about just being able to relax and watch TV at night without feeling guilty that I should be researching vendors or making a seating chart. Plus, I’m pretty sure if I would have been blogging/had Pinterest been around when I was planning my wedding, my head literally would have exploded. After all, there so many beautiful color schemes, cakes, dresses, flowers, and a million other details out there, it’s obviously not possible to fit them ALL into one wedding. At the end of the day, you just have have to make the best choices for you (and your budget) and be done with it.

So even though I’m done with planning my wedding, that doesn’t mean I can’t still have a little fun pretending today does it?
Here are some of my favorite wedding ideas I’ve found on Pinterest; some are ideas that I would totally incorporate in my wedding if I was getting married again, whereas others are things that I wouldn’t necessarily have done myself but that I still think are cool. Hopefully this will provide some inspiration to those of you that are still planning!

Start a journal on the day you get engaged to give to each other on your wedding day

Hold your parents’ wedding photos–love this photo idea!

Obviously if we were getting married now we’d have our own hashtag for the big day 🙂

Have a Bible next to your guest book and have people highlight & sign their name next to their favorite verses

Our wedding colors were pink and navy (which I still love) but navy and yellow could have been really cute, especially because it’s the colors for U of M and we were getting married in Ann Arbor!
Napa wedding–would be such a gorgeous place to get married!

I think this is such a fun idea for a groom’s cake!

Love the idea of giving something local for unique favor!

Write letters to give to each other before the wedding–so sweet!

I’ve been to this chapel in Grand Teton National Park twice (once as a kid & then back in 2011)–there is a giant window over the altar that looks out at the mountains–it would be an incredible place to get married!

Another Napa wedding shot, love it!

I love the idea of coral and turquoise for a summer wedding

Gift for bridesmaids, for helping you tie the knot–such a cute gift idea that they’ll actually use!
Get photos before without actually seeing each other

Love this favor idea
I also love the idea of navy and coral for a color scheme
Boone Hall Plantation in Charleston–Cam and I visited here while living in South Carolina and it is gorgeous! Parts of the Notebook were filmed here, it’s where Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds got married, and it would be such a romantic to have the ultimate Southern wedding 🙂
I absolutely love this photo idea–three generations of rings!
Cute idea for table numbers–photos of the bride and groom at each age
The Biltmore Estate in North Carolina would be an amazing place for a wedding, it’s so grand and would feel like a castle!
This is actually for the bachelorette party, but it would be a fun keepsake to have 🙂
Another Napa shot–can you tell that I think this would be a good place to get married?!
Have all your bridesmaids sign your wedding shoes
Our colors were navy and pale pink but I think that the navy stripes with a more vibrant pink is really fun!
This would be such a cute idea instead of a guestbook!

How cute are these bridesmaids dresses?
Love the idea of a sparkler send-off!

I could seriously go on and on posting wedding ideas, there are so many great ones out there! I guess I’ll have to keep that in mind for our vow renewal one day-ha!
(Except I’m kind of being serious).

I think the biggest thing you realize after getting married is just how much time and effort it takes for all the details to fall into place. I absolutely love going to weddings, as I really notice all the little details, I can really appreciate all the effort that’s been put in, and can just enjoy the day. We’ve got the our first wedding of the summer on Saturday and I couldn’t be more excited to be there and support my friends as they say “I do!” Xoxo

PS: I’m linking up with Shanna, Jamie, and Michelle today!
