I saw this the other day and had to laugh because I’m pretty sure that every bride that got married before Pinterest feels that way (and I actually talked about it in my anniversary post
last year). Cameron and I had a really beautiful wedding that was perfect for us and really symbolized where we at in our lives at the time. And honestly, if we were doing it again tomorrow I would probably keep a lot of the major details the same. At the same time, I think what’s so great about Pinterest when it comes to wedding planning is that it provides great inspiration for creative little details to make your wedding really personal, so if I had it to do over, I probably would have incorporated a few more of those ideas into our ceremony/reception. And although I loved the fact that we got married in Ann Arbor, MI because it’s so significant to us (
it’s where we both went to school and met), having lived all over the country these past few years has really opened my eyes to just how many beautiful locations with unique venues there are that would be awesome places to get married.
Truth be told, there’s a little part of me that wishes I was planning my wedding now. I have so many friends who either just got engaged or are getting married soon, and for me it feels like all that stuff was so long ago that I sort of wish I could go through it again. When I was planning my wedding, I was finishing my last semester of college, starting my first (very stressful) full-time job, I had been to maybe all of three weddings before in my life, and I really had no idea what I was doing. I wasn’t blogging and was not aware of even a fraction of the wedding blogs/resources that are out there today. I feel like I’m a lot more knowledgeable about that stuff today than I was four years ago, so that’s why when I browse Pinterest or read about other blogger’s who are currently planning their weddings, it’s hard not to feel a little envious and wish I could be going through that process again!
But as anyone who’s recently planned their wedding knows, it can also be a very stressful time. I talk to my girlfriends who are getting married this summer and they’re all crazy busy trying to balance working full-time, house hunting, moving, trying to coordinate with their families/bridal parties that are spread across the country, and all these other challenges that I didn’t have on my plate yet when I was going through the process four years ago. They tell me about their massive to-do lists of things they have to get done before their weddings, and I’m quickly reminded of just how time-consuming that wedding planning can be. So I guess if I’m being honest, there’s another (bigger) part of me that is really glad that our wedding is over. Don’t get me wrong, it’s such a special time in your life and a lot of fun to be engaged, but there’s something really nice about just being able to relax and watch TV at night without feeling guilty that I should be researching vendors or making a seating chart. Plus, I’m pretty sure if I would have been blogging/had Pinterest been around when I was planning my wedding, my head literally would have exploded. After all, there so many beautiful color schemes, cakes, dresses, flowers, and a million other details out there, it’s obviously not possible to fit them ALL into one wedding. At the end of the day, you just have have to make the best choices for you (and your budget) and be done with it.
So even though I’m done with planning my wedding, that doesn’t mean I can’t still have a little fun pretending today does it?

I could seriously go on and on posting wedding ideas, there are so many great ones out there! I guess I’ll have to keep that in mind for our vow renewal one day-ha!
(Except I’m kind of being serious).

I think the biggest thing you realize after getting married is just how much time and effort it takes for all the details to fall into place. I absolutely love going to weddings, as I really notice all the little details, I can really appreciate all the effort that’s been put in, and can just enjoy the day. We’ve got the our first wedding of the summer on Saturday and I couldn’t be more excited to be there and support my friends as they say “I do!” Xoxo
