Home // Our Portland House Tour

Happy Monday everyone!

I seriously can’t believe that it’s already the middle of September, this month seems like it’s flying! And so I figured it’s high time to finally share some pictures of our house!

After a few long months of house hunting, we made an offer on our house in SE Portland at the end of March. We actually found out we got the house on the same day we found out we were having a baby and so it definitely felt like it was meant to be! We closed at the end of April, and moved in at the beginning of May when my parents were visiting Portland. Since then, we’ve had a really busy summer and haven’t really had a chance to do too much to the house yet. Thankfully though, it was move in ready and didn’t really need any major renovations (unlike some of the houses we looked at).

Our house was built in 1926 and it definitely has the character we were looking for in a home. We loved a lot of the charming details right away and it just fit what Cameron and I wanted in our first house. This picture of the exterior is actually from when we moved in…and not much has changed there, beyond cutting the grass! Cam did make some progress on some of the landscaping out front, but we still have quite a bit we’d like to do there. We’d also like to add a deck on the back of the house, but decided to wait and save that project for next summer. As for the inside of the house, we really didn’t do much over the first couple of months as we were pretty busy this summer, plus we wanted to live in the house for a bit and get used to it before we started making a bunch of changes. But over the past month or so, we’ve made some progress on getting the inside organized and so I figured I’d go ahead and share some photos. I feel like a house is never really “done” and it will always be a work in progress as we continue to complete projects and add things to our home from our travels. But I wanted to document how it looks right now, and I’ll share updates in the future!

This is what you see when you walk in the front door and look to the right…

…and this is what you see when you look to the left.

Our living room is cozy, and I’m looking forward to fires in the fireplace this winter!

One project we’d like to tackle down the road is possibly taking the tile off the fireplace and adding brick, as we feel it would fit our taste/the house a little bit better. As far as “styling” the mantle, I know it’s something I’ll be constantly tweaking as the seasons change, but for now we just used a mix of stuff already we had combined with some items from Cam’s grandparents house.

Our furniture is a mix of some things we had and some more recent purchases. We bought our new couch last year when we moved into our apartment, and then this mid-century modern chair is a restored vintage piece that we recently found here in Portland (and Cam fell in love with).

The coffee table is from Cam’s grandparents house and the rug is West Elm.

When you walk in, we have this vintage radio from Cam’s grandparents house there for now. The walls are in the house are plaster, so we haven’t really hung too many things on them yet!

Our living room opens to our dining room…we really love the original hardwood floors!

We found this buffet at an antique store near our house, and then the dining room table was actually something we found on Craigslist. We re-covered the chairs in a fabric from Ikea that I thought perfect for Portland, being the City of Roses and all! Plus, it matches with all of the gray we have 🙂

From the dining room there is a door to the kitchen…

Thankfully, the kitchen had been fairly recently updated so there wasn’t much to do!

My favorite part about the kitchen is this cute little breakfast nook 🙂

The table in the kitchen is vintage, and then I recently got the more modern chairs to go with it. I was planning on buying them online, but one of my favorite bakeries here in Portland had these chairs and was getting rid of them, so they sold some to me which makes me love them that much more 🙂

Off the family room is a door to our guest room/office, which is where I work every day.
We haven’t hung too many things up yet, but ultimately want to go with sort of a travel theme in here.
Cameron recently built the bookshelf, and we bought the map when we were living our apartment.
Next to the guest room is our home’s only bathroom; as much as I love living in an old house, that’s definitely one of the drawbacks! I do love that we still have all our original doors/handles though!

We’d eventually like to paint and update the bathroom a little bit, so more to come on that!

Next to the bathroom, there is a door that leads upstairs…

Our upstairs is fairly small, but it works for us! That open door to the left will be the nursery, so I’ll definitely be sharing more photos of that once it’s finished! We didn’t have any space for our Expedit/Ikea mirror that we bought for our apartment, and so they’re living in the landing between our room and the baby’s room for now. The nice thing is that we cleaned out the Expedit recently so it’s completely empty in preparation of the overflow of baby items that won’t fit in the nursery 🙂

And finally, here is our bedroom! (It was so hard to get any decent pictures with the sunlight!)

We recently got a new mattress and this tufted platform bed to go with it, which I really like.

The closet space in our room is very limited, but we’re making it work for now 🙂

So there you have it, our first home! I look forward to sharing more updates as we settle in and continue to make it our own in the days to come! Lola says thanks for stopping by! 🙂
(Also, I swear I do not pose her for these pictures, she just can’t help herself)
