I seriously can’t believe that it’s already the middle of September, this month seems like it’s flying! And so I figured it’s high time to finally share some pictures of our house!
After a few long months of house hunting, we made an offer on our house in SE Portland at the end of March. We actually found out we got the house on the same day we found out we were having a baby and so it definitely felt like it was meant to be! We closed at the end of April, and moved in at the beginning of May when my parents were visiting Portland. Since then, we’ve had a really busy summer and haven’t really had a chance to do too much to the house yet. Thankfully though, it was move in ready and didn’t really need any major renovations (unlike some of the houses we looked at).
Our house was built in 1926 and it definitely has the character we were looking for in a home. We loved a lot of the charming details right away and it just fit what Cameron and I wanted in our first house. This picture of the exterior is actually from when we moved in…and not much has changed there, beyond cutting the grass! Cam did make some progress on some of the landscaping out front, but we still have quite a bit we’d like to do there. We’d also like to add a deck on the back of the house, but decided to wait and save that project for next summer. As for the inside of the house, we really didn’t do much over the first couple of months as we were pretty busy this summer, plus we wanted to live in the house for a bit and get used to it before we started making a bunch of changes. But over the past month or so, we’ve made some progress on getting the inside organized and so I figured I’d go ahead and share some photos. I feel like a house is never really “done” and it will always be a work in progress as we continue to complete projects and add things to our home from our travels. But I wanted to document how it looks right now, and I’ll share updates in the future!
This is what you see when you walk in the front door and look to the right…
…and this is what you see when you look to the left.
Our living room is cozy, and I’m looking forward to fires in the fireplace this winter!
One project we’d like to tackle down the road is possibly taking the tile off the fireplace and adding brick, as we feel it would fit our taste/the house a little bit better. As far as “styling” the mantle, I know it’s something I’ll be constantly tweaking as the seasons change, but for now we just used a mix of stuff already we had combined with some items from Cam’s grandparents house.
Our furniture is a mix of some things we had and some more recent purchases. We bought our new couch last year when we moved into our apartment, and then this mid-century modern chair is a restored vintage piece that we recently found here in Portland (and Cam fell in love with).
The coffee table is from Cam’s grandparents house and the rug is West Elm.
When you walk in, we have this vintage radio from Cam’s grandparents house there for now. The walls are in the house are plaster, so we haven’t really hung too many things on them yet!

The table in the kitchen is vintage, and then I recently got the more modern chairs to go with it. I was planning on buying them online, but one of my favorite bakeries here in Portland had these chairs and was getting rid of them, so they sold some to me which makes me love them that much more 🙂

We’d eventually like to paint and update the bathroom a little bit, so more to come on that!
Next to the bathroom, there is a door that leads upstairs…
